EPTA , EUROPEAN PIANO TEACHERS ASSOCIATION - the Europe-wide co-ordinating - body has the following definition on it's main web site
(http://www.epta-europe.org - click button "www-EPTA" on the left) :
"Founded in 1978 in London by Carola Grindea, EPTA now has organizations across and beyond Europe. We all work for the same ideal of promoting the human and artistic values linked to musical activity and also dealing with all aspects of the art of piano playing and its pedagogy, from the very beginning to the mastery".

The main EPTA web site gives additional description concerning basic spheres of organization's activity:
"
The activities of EPTA are numerous : conferences, competitions, master classes, seminars and international congresses on pedagogical themes or more specific subjects regarding the interpretation of the master pieces of piano literature".

EPTA now has Associations in almost every European country, and an International Conference of all EPTA Associations is held in a different country each year.
According to procedure established by the EPTA Founder - Carola Grindea - the President (in Polish terms: "Prezes") is being appointed to a local organization of each member country. The choice is made by EPTA Board in London. The President nominated by EPTA Board is authorized to build and lead organization in specific country. EPTA allows, under restrictions of European law, just one organization of the name of EPTA in one member coutry.

The EPTA branch in Poland under the name "POLSKIE STOWARZYSZENIE PEDAGOGÓW-PIANISTÓW" ("Polish Association of Pedagogues-Pianists") was established in 1990 by Professor Teresa Manasterska with approval of the organization's board in London (the Polish association was first registered by the District Court in Warsaw on June 12th 1990). Goals and activities of the Association were presented in four items in the information brochure "Biuletyn Informacyjny" No 1/91 (click button "GOALS" on the left). The Committee of 11 members, and Professor Teresa Manasterska as it's Chairman, was chosen by the inaugural meeting of the Association at the Fredric Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw on December 3rd, 1990.

In January 2006 the EPTA Organizing Secretary Nadia Lasserson paid visit to Warsaw. As the result of her talks with Professor Manasterska it was decided, that EPTA Board in London would nominate a new President of EPTA-Poland. Following recommendation of the President of EPTA-England Dr. Mark Ray - Carola Grindea and the English Board of EPTA selected Professor Paweł Skrzypek as new President of EPTA-Poland (letter of February 9th, 2006), who became responsible for reactivation and further development of the Polish organization (to learn about development of EPTA-Poland - click button "CHRONICLE" on the left). EPTA's Polish branch was reactivated as the new organization (association) named "POLISH PIANO TEACHERS ASSOCIATION EPTA-POLAND" on May 6, 2006 by 30 Founder-Members coming from several main musical centers in Poland. The first congress of the new organization took place at the Frederic Chopin State School of Music in Warsaw. The new Association's Charter waqs approved (click button "GOALS" on the left) and the EPTA-POLAND's Board was selected by voting. Professor Paweł Skrzypek was voted to become the President, Adam Podrez (from Bielsko-Biała - Southern Poland) and Mariusz Tytman (Płock - Northern Poland) were voted to become Vice-Presidents. The legal procedure was succesfully completed in October and the Association was registered by the Country's Register Court (KRS) on October 12, 2006.
